When you are looking for the best insurance rates, Texas, then you need to compare health insurance benefits with one another. Too many people just compare only the premiums of different insurance companies and do not bother to take a look at the actual benefits of the policies. It is important that you take a look at the benefits each policy offers so that you can get the best insurance you can buy. When you go online for insurance rates, Texas, be sure to look at not only the rates of the premiums, but also how the insurance plans to cover you. You should make sure that you compare health insurance by the benefits, the co payments that you will have to make in case you use the insurance coverage as well as the cost of the premiums. You can often save money if you are looking for inexpensive insurance rates, Texas by having a larger co payment. You should do this if you feel that you will not be using the insurance. Most people do not feel as though they are going to use health insurance but they get it just in case they need it. For this reason, they pay more attention to insurance rates, Texas such as their monthly premium rates, rather than the coverage itself. It is important to get the best coverage as possible as it can cost you quite a bit more than you are saving in case you need to use your insurance coverage. You should be sure to compare health insurance not only by the amount of the premium that you are going to have to pay, but also by the amount of the coverage. The objective to getting quotes on insurance rates, Texas, is that you get the best coverage that you can get at the lowest price. The only way that you can do this is to compare health insurance premiums along with the coverage that they offer. There are various ways that an individual can save money on their health insurance coverage. They can do this by having a higher co payment if they feel that they will not be using the doctor very much. This can cut down on the actual amount that you have to pay out of pocket each month for the insurance. When you take a look at insurance rates, Texas, be sure to look at the amount you pay each month and compare health insurance co payments with one another. Additional types of insurance may be added in with some insurance rates, Texas. However, if they are not needed, then they can often be skipped. You should make sure that you compare health insurance plans that are comparable to one another by way of coverage and benefits rather than just the cost of the premium. The cost of the premium may be an indicator that the insurance rates, Texas are affordable, but it pays to compare health insurance as often, for a few dollars more, you can get better coverage and lower co payments. It pays to take a look at the difference between the rates before you make your decision as to which is the best insurance for you.

Explosion at earthquake-damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant

Fukushima Daiichi power plant before the earthquakeImage: c:User:KEI.

An explosion has been reported at Japan’s stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant after its cooling system was damaged by a massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake that hit off the North-East coast of Japan on Friday. The explosion occurred at around 3:00pm local time (6:00am UTC). According to the plant’s operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company, four workers were injured in the explosion.

The explosion occurred as workers were attempting to cool a reactor by injecting water into its core. Local media are reporting that the plant’s exterior walls have been destroyed and only a skeleton structure remains.

More than 45,000 residents within a 10-kilometre radius of the plant have been evacuated.

Television reports show white smoke coming from the plant. Local authorities are warning residents in the vicinity of the plant to stay indoors, turn off air-conditioners and not to drink tap water. According to Japan’s nuclear agency, radioactive caesium and iodine has been identified at the plant. Authorities speculate that this indicates that containers holding uranium fuel at the site may have ruptured and are leaking.

Norwegian military security agency accused of conducting illegal surveillance of PM

Saturday, June 13, 2009

Yesterday, Norwegian news outlets reported that Defense Security Service (Forsvarets sikkerhetstjeneste [FOST]) had conducted illegal surveillance against the prime minister’s office and other government offices.

Kripos, a division of the Norwegian Ministry of Justice and the Police, did a police search of the Norwegian Ministry of Defence’s top-secret intelligence agency’s computer equipment in Jørstadmoen, after a request by the Ministry of Defense.

While remaining confident that the case will be investigated in a correct way, Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg stated to Aftenposten late Wednesday that “it’s important that the police now find out what actually has happened.”

Jens Stoltenberg (left) on May 1 2009 Image: Alejandro Decap.

Verdens Gang reported that to their knowledge, the surveillance happened in connection with FOST, having the responsibility for the computer security of key personnel within the prime minister’s office and other government offices. For practical reasons these people have been connected to the military secure lines. Sources with insight to the surveillance process explained to Aftenposten that when a possible breach of computer security is detected its protocol that the person be given a notice that he may be in process off or already have broken the security rules. A person, possible within the Prime minister’s office has most likely received such a note and has reacted to the fact that the computer traffic had been under surveillance.

Vice admiral Jan Eirik Finseth told Verdens Gang that the Defense security agency’s computer security section, reported that computer communication lines had been put under surveillance by military communications lines. Vice admiral Finseth stated to Verdens Gang that “the circumstances is of such a nature that the police [were] asked to investigate if anything of this may be illegal.”

When Wikinews contacted State attorney Petter Mandt, who leads the investigation, we received confirmation that a search in Jørstadmoen took place, but he would not comment on what was confiscated, if anything. Mandt also stated that they would not comment on any specifics or give any details on the investigation, but explained that for use of a police search there has to be more than 50% probable suspicion that something illegal may have happened. When asked if suspicion was that the prime minister’s office had been put under illegal surveillance, Mandt refused to comment and stated that he will comment on neither how many nor who the individuals involved are.

Defense political spokesperson for Socialistic left (Sv) Bjørn Jacobsen, told Wikinews that “it’s important to find out what, if anything has happened,” but that “it’s shocking that there even exist[s] a reason for a police search.” When asked what will happen if anything illegal is found to have taken place, Jacobsen responded by pointing out that in this case the prosecutors will have to decide on what to do next, but stated that “parliament will have to see if the law and regulations ha[ve] to be changed. It’s important to stop an eventual bad culture before it sticks to the walls.”

This is the second investigation of illegal government surveillance in Norway since the Lund commission’s report uncovered illegal surveillance of communist, socialist, and other persons, which the Norwegian Police Security Service deemed to be dangerous.

Wikinews was unable to get any comments from the Norwegian Military Defense when contacted.

No Down Payment Poor Credit Mortgage Loan Why Use A Sub Prime Mortgage Lender?

By Carrie Reeder

Getting a home loan with no money down and poor credit is feasible. Fortunately, various lenders specialize in mortgage loans for all credit types and situations. Sub prime lenders are unique and helpful. Finding a suitable sub prime lender is easy. If using an online mortgage broker, you will have access to several lenders eager to offer loans to high risk applicants.

Sub Prime Mortgage Lenders vs. Traditional Lenders and Banks

Even though several traditional mortgage lenders have begun offering sub prime loans, a large percentage of these lenders prefer applicants with good credit scores and large down payments. Fortunately, sub prime mortgage lenders recognize how difficult it is to maintain a good credit rating and save money for a home purchase. Hence, these lenders are willing to take a chance and give people the opportunity to achieve their dream of homeownership.

If your credit score is above 670, you may qualify for a prime rate mortgage. This involves considerably low interest rates and lower fees. Sub prime lenders work with low credit applicants. There are many types of sub prime lenders. Fraudulent lenders will take advantage of applicants and charge excessive fees. Those who do not compare lenders may accept a bad loan. On the other hand, reputable lenders offer comparably low rates. Additionally, applicants may obtain down payment and closing cost assistance.

The Quickest Way to Get a Sub Prime Loan

If searching for a sub prime lender, the internet is a valuable resource. Various mortgage loan companies offer online applications and quick responses. Getting approved online is simple and convenient. Moreover, getting multiple quotes from at least four different lenders is possible through a mortgage broker.

Applicants simply complete an online quote request, and within minutes a broker will email quotes. Broker quotes afford the opportunity to make side-by-side comparisons. Each quote includes detail loan information such as loan terms (15 or 30 years), interest rate (low fixed rate, ARM, interest-only), mortgage payment, and closing costs. Hence, applicants are aware of all costs before accepting a loan offer.

After carefully considering the pro’s and con’s of each offer, applicants must select a quote and complete the loan approval process.

Study says to clean your sponge, microwave it

Thursday, January 25, 2007

A bathing sponge.

Studies done on germs and bacteria performed by researchers at the University of Florida show that a dirty kitchen sponge can be cleaned and “sterilized” by microwaving it for 2 minutes, but researchers warn to wet the sponge first.

“People often put their sponges and scrubbers in the dishwasher, but if they really want to decontaminate them and not just clean them, they should use the microwave,” said the professor who was in charge of the study that discovered the results, Gabriel Bitton.

“Basically what we find is that we could knock out most bacteria in two minutes. The microwave is a very powerful and an inexpensive tool for sterilization,” added Bitton.

The sponges that researchers studied, were placed in “raw wastewater” and then put into a microwave to be “zapped,” according to Bitton. The wastewater was a “witch’s brew of fecal bacteria, viruses, protozoan parasites and bacterial spores, including Bacillus cereus spores,” said Bitton.

Researchers say that at least 99% of the bacteria, viruses, spores and parasites in kitchen spongees can be destroyed or “inactivated” by simply microwaving the wet sponge, on the highest power, for two minutes.

Mlambo-Ngcuka sworn in as South African deputy president

Friday, June 24, 2005

Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka was sworn in as deputy president of South Africa Thursday becoming the first woman ever to hold that position. Other Cabinet members applauded as she was sworn in to office in Cape Town. Her appointment comes after former deputy president Jacob Zuma was sacked after being accused of corruption relating to a bribery scandal.

She stated that she will perform much the same function as Zuma, namely “looking after the second economy”, HIV/AIDS issue, and other assignments President Thabo Mbeki give her. “I will be looking after women and youth,” she also said.

Mlambo-Ngcuka, a former school teacher, travelled to Geneva, Switzerland to work with the YWCA. She returned to South Africa in 1987 and assumed a leading role in the Ecumenical Action Group and other anti-apartheid groups. She was later elected to parliament and appointed deputy trade and industry minister.

In 2003 she publicly accused Jacob Zuma of corruption, though the case was never formalized due to insufficient evidence. Her husband, former national director of Public Prosecutions Bulelani Ngcuka, investigated Zuma and concluded that prima facie evidence of corruption existed.

Individuals opposed to her appointment accuse her of involvement in the transfer of large sums of taxpayers’ money to the African National Congress‘ election fund through an oil company. Her brother, who asserts that the transaction was completely above board, has been implicated in South African news reports.

Five dead after bar attack in Bamako, Mali

Monday, March 9, 2015

The attack took place in the capital city of BamakoImage: Arensond.

Five people, including two Europeans, have been killed by gunmen during an attack on a bar in Bamako, the capital city of Mali, early on Sunday morning. At least nine others were injured during the attack in which the assailants used machine guns and grenades.

Three Malians, a French national, and a Belgian security official who was working for the European Union were killed. At least three Swiss nationals, including soldiers, are amongst the wounded. Local newspaper al-Akhbar reported al-Murabitun, an Islamic extremist group, say they are behind the shooting.

Gunmen attacked the La Terrasse bar shortly at around 1:00a.m. French soldiers were on-scene soon after the attack had started.

Commenting for the BBC, Alex Duval-Smith said “When I arrived there about an hour after the attack, there was a white body bag on the floor. A dozen Malian police were at the scene, including an inspector who used tables and stools to cordon off the bar. A witness said the attackers had sped off in a vehicle and on a motorbike and that one had shouted ‘Allahu Akbar'”.

al-Murabitun hold territory in Northern Mali. According to the U.S State Department they are “newly-formed”.

French President François Hollande said the shooting was “cowardly” and spoke to Ibrahim Boubakar Keita, the President of Mali. During the conversation he offered Mali “the aid of France” to fight extremism. The French Embassy in Bamako has warned its citizens living in the city to be on high alert.

This is believed to be the first attack by a Islamist group in the capital city. In 2013 French troops aided in displacing Islamist forces from towns in Northern Mali. Mali still has around 1,000 serving French soldiers stationed in the country.

Wikinews interviews World Wide Web co-inventor Robert Cailliau

Thursday, August 16, 2007

Robert Cailliau in 1995.Image: CERN.

The name Robert Cailliau may not ring a bell to the general public, but his invention is the reason why you are reading this: Dr. Cailliau together with his colleague Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, making the internet accessible so it could grow from an academic tool to a mass communication medium. Last January Dr. Cailliau retired from CERN, the European particle physics lab where the WWW emerged.

Wikinews offered the engineer a virtual beer from his native country Belgium, and conducted an e-mail interview with him (which started about three weeks ago) about the history and the future of the web and his life and work.

Wikinews: At the start of this interview, we would like to offer you a fresh pint on a terrace, but since this is an e-mail interview, we will limit ourselves to a virtual beer, which you can enjoy here.

Robert Cailliau: Yes, I myself once (at the 2nd international WWW Conference, Chicago) said that there is no such thing as a virtual beer: people will still want to sit together. Anyway, here we go.
