Metal detecting, also known as coin shooting, is a very popular hobby where individuals search or hunt for valuable objects under the earth using a special tool called a metal detector. There are several items a successful search needs: a reliable detector, shovel, collection containers, sand scoop and digging tools. Any individual can use a detector. However there are several metal detecting tips and tricks which will give individuals an advantage over the rest.

1: Treasure hunting may seem simple at first but there are a few tips and tricks of the trade that can produce a successful hunt. Purchasing a detector is a priority. Instead of spending too much money on an expensive device, buy the best detector within your budget. Searching online will produce various online stores with product and consumer reviews as well as product specifications and price comparisons. For a beginner, purchasing a very expensive metal detector may not be an option. The best and most expensive detector does not necessarily make for a more successful search.

2: Secondly, there are certain areas where treasures is most likely to be found. These areas are usually those that are highly populated by people like shopping areas, beaches, parks and fairs. Additionally, areas that have been ravished by natural disasters such as flood or fire are prime locations for detecting treasures. Lastly, industrial areas such as lumber or mining fields are also great treasure detecting areas.

3: Joining a treasure hunting club is a great way to learn tips about the hobby and excel at a faster pace. These clubs are great places to meet people who share the passion of metal detecting. There are some persons who prefer to go out in groups than by themselves so a detecting club is also a great choice for them.

4: Practice makes perfect. Before going out on a large site, practice on a smaller and less used patch of land. Have a friend bury a few metal pieces for you to find to sharpen your skill. It is important to become familiar with your new detector and the sounds that it makes. A great way to become familiar with the device is to dig at every spot the device detects. For instance, typing the history of (a town or community) will produce thousands of results. This is a great way to find special locations which may or may not hold priceless treasures.

6: Another great tip is to hunt after heavy rain. Rain helps to make the ground more conductive which allows a detector to detect treasures at greater depths. After the winter months it is also a great tip to revisit sites where the ground had frozen. Once the ground thaws, dirt and gravel shifts and hidden treasures will be easier to find as a result.

7: Lastly, ensure to cover all the holes you have dug to prevent injury. These metal detecting tips will help any treasure hunter find valuable and priceless items.
